When compared to the size of the universe, human beings are infinite times smaller, equivalent to dust on this planet. From the time we were born to the end of our life, time flies so fast just like a small boat on a creek that flows downhill eventually to the ocean. In this relatively short duration of human life in comparison to the existence of the Earth, people have tried so hard to understand this world with their emotions and; therefore, to prove their existence. In spite of the above-mentioned concept, my works present the struggle of lives, scars, loss, search, discouragement and bravery.
The “bird icon” on my painting is the reversed Chinese character “人”(human). It usually has only one bird in a foggy landscape—which could be you or me, or anyone around us. This bird icon symbolizes the inevitable loneliness of our lives. No matter how many friends around us, we always have to go through every challenge alone. That’s the proof of our existence.
The fog, mist, water vapour, light, shadow, and wind are also important elements in my artwork. These elements tell us how changeable the world is. The future is blurred and unpredictable, just like a landscape in the mist. Every step is the exploration of the unknown future and there will always be surprises at the next corner. I use lots of blue and purple tones to build a mystery dreamy world. I combine the Eastern art concept of “Rhythmic Vitality” into my artwork, discussing the philosophy of our lives.
